Foundation Chain: Multiples of 8 + 4

Row 1: Skip 1 ch, 1dc/sc in next, * skip 6ch, shell in next ch, skip 6ch, make slt + 5ch + slt in next ch; rep from*, work 1dc/sc in last ch (instead slt + 5ch + slt), turn.

Row 2: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in first dc/sc below, work 1dc/sc + 1tr/dc + 1dc/sc in each of next dtr/tr. Keep loops of 5 chs at front of shells (see picture). Work 1dc/sc in last dc/sc below at end of row. Turn.

Row 3: Make 6ch, 5 dtr/tr in first dc/sc below, * make slt + 5ch + slt in back loop of 5th dtr/tr of shell below:

Work shell in space of 5ch, rep from *,

make slt + 5ch + slt in back loop of 5th dtr/tr of shell below, 6 dtr/tr in last dc/sc below, turn.

Row 4: Make 1 ch and 1dc/sc in first dtr/tr below, work 1dc/sc + 1tr/dc + 1dc/sc in each of next dtr/tr. Keep loops of 5 chs at front of shells. Make 1dc/sc in 6th ch and turn.

Row 5: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in first dc/sc below, * work shell in space of 5ch, make slt + 5ch + slt in back loop of 5th dtr/tr of shell below; rep from *, work shell in space of 5ch, 1dc/sc in last dc/sc of row below, turn.

Repeat rows 2 - 5 until you have reached your desired length.
