Crochet shell stitch pattern for a triangle shawl

This triangle crochet stitch pattern is a versatile design that can be worked using any thread or yarn. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label. But you can play around with different options to get tighter or looser crochet fabric.

How to grow your triangle shawl pattern:

You can grow the shawl pattern for as long as you want. Simply repeat rows (given in diagram and step-by-step instructions) until you get the desired size of your shawl.

Techniques used in this stitch

UK / US crochet term:

Chain stitch – ch

Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc

Double treble / Treble – d.tr / tr

Shell – work in the same stitch: 1 tr/dc + 2 ch + 1 tr/dc

Row 1: 4 ch, work into last ch: 1tr/dc, 2ch, 1tr/dc, 2ch, 1tr/dc and 1 d.tr/tr, turn.

Row 2: 7 ch, 1 tr/dc in tr/dc below, 3ch, 9 d.tr/tr in first space of 2 ch, 1 d.tr/tr in tr/dc below, 9 d.tr/tr in next space of 2 ch, 1d.tr/tr in ch, turn.

Row 3: 3ch, shell in d.tr/tr below, 2 ch, shell in fifth d.tr/tr below, 2ch, 1 tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc in d.tr/tr below, 2 ch, shell in fifth d.tr/tr below, 2ch, shell and 1 d.tr/tr in third ch, turn.

Row 4: 3ch, 9 d.tr/tr in space of 2 ch, shell in shell, 9 d.tr/tr in next space of 2 ch, 1 d.tr/tr in tr/dc below, 9 d.tr/tr in space of 2 ch, shell in shell, 9 d.tr/tr in space of 2 ch, 1d.tr/tr in ch, turn.

Row 5:

Work next steps:

"Beginning of left edge " : 3ch, shell in d.tr/tr below.

"Middle stitches 1": 2ch, shell in fifth d.tr/tr below, 2ch, shell in shell; rep from*.

"Middle point 1": 2ch, shell in fifth d.tr/tr below, 2ch, 1 tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc + 2ch + 1tr/dc in d.tr/tr below.

"Middle stitches 1": (see above).

"Ending of right edge " : 2ch, shell in fifth d.tr/tr below, 2ch, shell and 1 d.tr/tr in third ch, turn.

Row 6:

Work next steps:

"Beginning of right edge" : 3ch, 9 d.tr/tr in space of 2 ch, shell in shell.

"Middle stitches 2": * 9 d.tr/tr in next space of 2 ch, shell in shell; rep from*.

"Middle point 2": 9 d.tr/tr in first space of 2 ch, 1 d.tr/tr in tr/dc below, 9 d.tr/tr in next space of 2 ch, shell in shell.

"Middle stitches 2": (see above).

"Ending of left edge" : 9 d.tr/tr in space of 2 ch, 1d.tr/tr in ch, turn.

Repeat rows 5 - 6 until you have reached your desired size of shawl.
