Crochet shell stitch pattern for a triangle shawl

This triangle crochet stitch pattern is a versatile design that can be worked using any thread or yarn. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label. But you can play around with different options to get tighter or looser crochet fabric.

How to grow your triangle shawl pattern:

You can grow the shawl pattern for as long as you want. Simply repeat rows (given in diagram and step-by-step instructions) until you get the desired size of your shawl.


Techniques used in this stitch

UK / US crochet term:

Chain stitch – ch

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc/sc

Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc

Shell: work 3tr/dc + 2ch + 3tr/dc in the same space.

Spiral: work 15ch, skip 2ch, work 3dc/sc in each of the next 11ch, 1ch.

Beginning

Make spiral with 1tr/dc: make 15ch, skip 2ch, work 3dc/sc in each of the next 11ch, make 1ch and 1tr/dc in last (15th) ch.

Row 1: Make one more spiral (without tr/dc) and work 3tr/dc + 2ch + 3tr/dc + 2ch + 3tr/dc in space under tr/dc, turn.

Row 2: Make 1 spiral, work shell in first space of 2ch, 3ch, shell in next space of 2ch, turn.

For all the next rows work:

1. The beginning of a row - "BR": make spiral and shell in shell.

2. The end of a row - "ER": make shell in shell and turn.

Row 3: Make "BR" (see above), 5ch, 1dc/sc in space of 3ch, 5ch, 1dc/sc in the same space, 5ch, work "ER".

Row 4: "BR", 3ch, 1dc/sc In 1st space of 5ch, 5ch, 1dc/sc in 3rd space of 5ch, 3ch, "ER".

Row 5: "BR", 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 3ch, 9tr/dc in space of 5ch, 1dc/sc in space of 3ch, 3ch, "ER".

Row 6: "BR" 5ch, 1dc/sc + 5ch + 1dc/sc in space of 3ch below, 5ch, skip 3tr/dc, 1dc/sc in each of the next 3tr/dc, 5ch, 1dc/sc + 5ch+ 1dc/sc in space of 3ch, 5ch,"ER".

Row 7: "BR", 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 5ch, 5ch, skip 1space of 5ch and work 1dc/sc in next space, 3ch, 1dc/sc in second dc/sc, 3ch, 1dc/sc in space of 5ch, 5ch, skip space of 5ch, 1dc/sc in next space, 3ch,"ER".
