Materials
Fingering weight yarn, and crochet hook size 2.5 - 2.75 mm / C.
You may use any yarn of your choice, and a suitable hook.
Techniques used in this stitch
UK / US crochet term:
Chain stitch – ch
Double crochet / Single crochet – dc/sc
Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc
Shell: work 3tr/dc + 1ch + 3tr/dc in the same st.

Row 2: Make 4ch, skip 5ch, * work shell in next st, 5ch, skip 9st; rep from *, work shell in next st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in last dc/sc below, turn.
Row 3: Make 4ch, * [work 1dc/sc + 3ch in space of 1ch] – 4 times, 1dc/sc in the same space, 7ch; rep from * for all next shells. Work 3ch + dc/sc in 1st ch instead 7ch at the end of the row. Turn.
Row 4: Make 3ch, skip 2 rows and work 2tr/dc in last dc/sc of next row below.
* Make 2ch, 1dc/sc on the back side of 3rd dc/sc below: insert you hook on the back side through 2 loops of 3rd dc/sc (see picture) and work dc/sc.
Make 2ch, skip 2 rows and work 5tr/dc in 5th dc/sc of next row below; rep from *, 2ch, 1dc/sc on the back side of 3rd dc/sc below, 2ch, work 2tr/dc in last dc/sc of next row below and 1tr/dc in dc/sc of the 2nd row, turn.
Row 5: Make 1 ch and work 1dc/sc in each of the next tr/dc, 2dc/sc in space of 2ch, 1dc/sc in dc/sc below. Work 1dc/sc in 3rd ch at the end of the row, turn.
Row 6: Make 4ch and 3tr/dc in 1st dc/sc below, * 5ch, skip 9st, make shell in next st; rep from*, 5ch, make 3tr/dc + 1ch + tr/dc in last dc/sc below, turn.
Row 7: Make 4ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch, 3ch, 1dc/sc in the same space, * 7ch, [work 1dc/sc + 3ch in space of 1ch] – 4 times, 1dc/sc in the same space; rep from * for all next shells. Then make 7ch, 1dc/sc in space of 4ch, 3ch, 1dc/sc in the same space, 1ch, 1tr/dc in the same space, turn.
Row 8: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in top fo tr/dc below, 2ch, * skip 2 rows and work 5tr/dc in 5th dc/sc of next row below, 2ch, 1dc/sc on the back side of 3rd dc/sc below, 2ch; rep from *, skip 2 rows and work 5tr/dc in 5th dc/sc of next row below, 2ch, 1dc/sc in 1st ch of row below, turn.
Row 9: Make 1 ch and work 1dc/sc in dc/sc, 2dc/sc in space of 2ch, 1dc/sc in each of the next tr/dc, below. Turn.
Repeat rows 2 - 9 until you have reached your desired length.
