Crochet ripple-shell stitch

Guide

Feel free to use any type of yarn (or even thread) for your project. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label.


Techniques used in this stitch

UK / US crochet term:

Chain stitch – ch

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc/sc

Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc

1 dc/sc decrease – 1dec

1 stitch decrease – 1Stdec

Stitch – st

Foundation Chain: Multiples of 41 + 3

Row 1: Skip 1ch, * [ 1dc/sc in next ch, skip 3ch, 9tr/dc in next ch, skip 3ch] – work 2 times, 1dc/sc in next ch, skip 3ch, 9tr/dc in next ch, 1 ch, 9tr/dc in next ch, skip 3ch, [ 1dc/sc in next ch, skip 3ch, 9tr/dc in next ch, skip 3ch] – work 2 times; rep from *, make 1dc/sc in last ch and turn.

Row 2: Make 4ch, skip 4tr/dc below, work 1dc/sc in each of next 2tr/dc, * [ 1ch, 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in dc/sc below, 1ch, skip 3tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in each of next 3tr/dc] - work 2 times, 1ch, work 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in space of 1ch below, 1ch, [ skip 3tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in each of next 3tr/dc, 1ch, 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in dc/sc below, 1ch] - work 2 times, skip 3tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in next st, work 1dec:

insert hook into next st, yarn over and draw through stitch, skip 4tr/dc of next shell, insert hook into next st, yarn over and draw through stitch, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

Make 1dc/sc in next st; rep from *.

Work 1Stdec instead 1dec + 1dc/sc at end of row:

insert hook into next st, yarn over and draw through stitch, yarn over, insert hook into first dc/sc of row below, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. Turn.

Row 3: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in first st, * [ make 9tr/dc in space of 1ch (between 2tr/dc), skip 1dc/sc, 1dc/sc in next] - work 2 times, 9tr/dc in space of 1ch, 1ch, 9tr/dc in next space of 1ch, [ skip 1dc/sc, 1dc/sc in next, 9tr/dc in space of 1ch] - work 2 times, skip 1dc/sc and make 1dc/sc in next st; rep from *, turn.

Repeat rows 2 – 3 until you have reached your desired length.

Colors & Rows: 1 – grey; 2 & 3 – dark blue; 4 & 5 – grey; 6 & 7 – dark blue; 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 – white; 14 & 15 – grey; 16 & 17 – light blue; 18 & 19 – pink; 20 & 21 – dark blue; 22 & 23 – white.
