Crochet flower-shell stitch

Guide

Materials

Fingering weight yarn, and crochet hook size 2.5 - 2.75 mm / C.
You may use any yarn of your choice, and a suitable hook.


Techniques used in this stitch

UK / US crochet term:

Chain stitch – ch

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc/sc

Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc

Crossed tr/dc – CRtr/dc

1 tr/dc decrease – 1dec

Puff stitch – pff: yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over, draw yarn through st. Repeat preceding step 2 times. Yarn over and draw through 6 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

Shell: make 3tr/dc + 1ch + 3tr/dc in same st (or space of 1ch).

Row 1: Skip 5ch, * 1tr/dc in next ch, 1ch, skip 1ch; rep from *, make 1tr/dc in each of next 2ch and turn.

Row 2: Make 4ch, * 1t/dc in next space of 1ch, 1ch; rep from *, 1tr/dc in space of 5ch, 1tr/dc in fourth ch, turn.

Decoration chains: Work chain stitches, until you have reached the left side of the pattern. In case if you don't have enough length of the decoration chains, you can always add more in the process. Don’t turn.

Row 3: Make 3ch, work one incomplete tr/dc in space between two tr/dc and another one in next space of 1ch, finish 1dec, make 1ch. The decoration chains should be behind the dec st.

* Work one incomplete tr/dc in same space of 1ch and another one in next space of 1ch, finish 1dec, make 1ch. The decoration chains should be in front of dec st. Repeat preceding step one time, but make the decoration chains behind the dec st; rep from *.

Work one incomplete tr/dc in same space of 1ch and another one in next space of 4ch, finish 1dec, make 1ch. The decoration chains should be in front of dec st. Work 1tr/dc in third ch, make the decoration chains behind the tr/dc.

Insert hook into the loop of decoration ch and draw it through first loop on hook, turn.

Row 4: * Make 2ch, 1dc/sc in space of 1ch; rep from *, 2ch, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 5: Make 3ch, 1tr/dc in space of 2ch, * skip 1dc/sc, make shell in next dc/sc below, skip one space of 2ch, 1tr/dc in next space of 2ch; rep from *, skip 1dc/sc, make shell in next dc/sc below, 2tr/dc in second ch, turn.

Row 6: Make 3ch and 1tr/dc in space between tr/dc and shell, * 3ch, make 1crossed tr/dc (CRtr/dc): skip first space between shell and tr/dc, and work 1tr/dc in next space. Make 1ch. Work 1tr/dc in the space that you skipped; rep from *. Make 3ch and 1tr/dc in space between shell and tr/dc, 1tr/dc in third ch, turn.

Row 7: Make 4ch and 3tr/dc in space between 2tr/dc, * work 1tr/dc in shell (space of 1ch of shell) of Row 5, make shell in space of 1ch of crossed st; rep from *, work 1tr/dc in shell, 3tr/dc in space of 3ch, 1ch, 1tr/dc in third ch, turn.

Row 8: Make 3ch, work 1CRtr/dc (in spaces between: tr/dc and shell & 3tr/dc and tr/dc), * 3ch, make 1CRtr/dc; rep from *. Work 2ch, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 9: Make 3ch and 1tr/dc in space of 4ch of Row 7, * make shell in space of 1ch of crossed st, 1tr/dc in shell of Row 7; rep from *, make shell in space of 1ch of crossed st, 1tr/dc in space of 1ch of Row 7, 1tr/dc in first ch of previous row, turn.

Row 10: Make 3ch and 1tr/dc in space between tr/dc and shell, * 3ch, make 1CRtr/dc; rep from *. Make 3ch and 1tr/dc in space between shell and tr/dc, 1tr/dc in third ch, turn.

Row 11: Make 3ch and 1tr/dc in space between 2tr/dc, * 1ch, make 2tr/dc in shell of Row 9, 1ch, make 2tr/dc with flower:

Work 2tr/dc in space of 1ch of crossed st, 3ch, make 1pff in space between 2tr/dc, 2ch, 1dc/sc in same space, 2ch, 1pff in same space, 2ch.

Insert hook from front to back in space between 2tr/dc and from back to front in space of 1ch of crossed st, make 1dc/sc, 2ch, 1pff in same space, 2ch, 1dc/sc in same space, 2ch.

Work 1pff in space between 2tr/dc (over first tr/dc), 2ch, 1dc/sc in same space, 2ch, 1pff in same space, 2ch, 1dc/sc in same space. Make 1ch and continue work row.

Make 2tr/dc in shell of Row 9, 1ch, 2tr/dc in space of 1ch of crossed st; rep from *.

At end of row work 1tr/dc in space of 3ch and 1tr/dc in third ch instead 2tr/dc in crossed st, turn.

Row 12: Make 2ch and 1dc/sc in second tr/dc below. Then work 1dc/sc in space of 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next tr/dc, 2dc/sc in space of 1ch before flower and 2dc/sc in space of 1ch after flower. Continue work in this manner until you get end of row. Work 1dc/sc in third ch and turn.

Row 13: Make 4ch, skip 2dc/sc, * 1tr/dc in next st, 1ch, skip 1st; rep from *, 1tr/dc in next st, 1tr/dc in second ch, turn.

Row 14: Make 4ch, * 1t/dc in next space of 1ch, 1ch; rep from *, 1tr/dc in space of 4ch, 1tr/dc in third ch, turn.

Repeat from “Decoration chains” to Row 14 until you have reached your desired length.
