Crochet tulip stitch

Guide

Feel free to use any type of yarn (or even thread) for your project. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label.


Techniques used in this stitch

UK / US crochet term:

Chain stitch – ch

Slip stitch - slt

Double crochet / single crochet – dc / sc

Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc

Picot of 5 ch – pct: make 5ch and slt in front loop of previous dc/sc

Stitch – st

Foundation Chain: Multiples of 15 + 4

Row 1: Skip 3ch, work 1tr/dc in each of next ch, turn.

Row 2: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in first st, * 1dc/sc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, 5ch, skip 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 4ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 2 tr/dc below, 5ch, skip 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 4ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 6 tr/dc below, rep from* ,1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 3: Make 3ch and skip first st, * 1tr/dc in each of next 6 dc/sc below.

Work tr/dc over 4dc/sc of first leaf: make 2tr/dc in fourth, third and second sts, 3tr/dc in first st; continue work on opposite side: make 2tr/dc in first, second, third and fourth sts.

Work 1tr/dc in each of next 2dc/sc below.

Work tr/dc over 4dc/sc of second leaf: repeat instructions for first leaf (make 2tr/dc in fourth, third and second sts, 3tr/dc in first st; continue work on opposite side: make 2tr/dc in first, second, third and fourth sts.)

Work 1tr/dc in each of next 7dc/sc below; rep from *, 1tr/dc in last dc/sc below, turn.

Row 4: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in first st, * 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below, skip leaf, 1dc/sc in each of next 2 tr/dc below, skip leaf, 1dc/sc in each of next 6 tr/dc below, rep from* , 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 5: Make 3ch and skip first st, * 1tr/dc in each of next 4 dc/sc below. Make joining of leaf: drop the loop from your hook, insert your hook through a loop of top tr/dc of leaf, grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

Work 1tr/dc in each of next 6 dc/sc below. Make joining of next leaf. Work 1tr/dc in each of next 5 dc/sc below; rep form *, 1tr/dc in last dc/sc below, turn.

Row 6: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in first st, * 1dc/sc in each of next 8 tr/dc below, make stem: 7ch,

turn and work 1dc/sc in dc/sc of row 2.

Make 9dc/sc in space of 7ch.

Turn and continue row, work 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below rep from *, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 7: Make 3ch and skip first st, * 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, skip stem, 1tr/dc in each of next 8 dc/sc below; rep from *, 1tr/dc in last st, turn.

Row 8: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 9: Make 3ch, skip first st, work 1tr/dc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Row 10: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in first st, * 1dc/sc in each of next 8 tr/dc below.

Making a flower. Work first petal: make 5ch, turn and work 1dc/sc^^ in dc/sc of row 6.

Make 8dc/sc in space of 5ch.

Work second petal: make 5ch, turn and work 1dc/sc over the dc/sc^^ of first petal. Make 8dc/sc in space of 5ch.

Make third, fourth and fifth petals as the second petal.

Work sixth petal: make 5ch, turn and work 1dc/sc over the dc/sc^^ of fifth petal, connect flower to fabric by making slt in dc/sc of row 6.

Make 8dc/sc in space of 5ch.

Now make round of dc/sc + picot over the flower:

work 1dc/sc in space between fabric and first petal, 1pct,

1dc/sc in space between first and second petals, 1pct, 1dc/sc in space between second and third petals, 1pct, 1dc/sc in space between third and fourth petals, 1pct, 1dc/sc in space between fourth and fifth petals, 1pct, 1dc/sc in space between fifth and sixth petals.

Continue row, work 1dc/sc in each of next 7 dc/sc below rep from *, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.


Change yarn colors for each petal to make multicolored flower:

Row 11: Make 3ch and skip first st, * 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, skip flower, 1tr/dc in each of next 8 dc/sc below; rep from *, 1tr/dc in last st, turn.

Row 12: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 13: Make 3ch, skip first st, work 1tr/dc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Row 14: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in each of next 9 tr/dc below, * 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below, 5ch, skip 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 4ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 2 tr/dc below, 5ch, skip 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 4ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 6 tr/dc below, rep from *, 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 15: Make 3ch and skip first st, 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, * 1tr/dc in each of next 6 dc/sc below. Work tr/dc over 4dc/sc of first leaf (see row 3), work 1tr/dc in each of next 2dc/sc below, work tr/dc over 4dc/sc of second leaf (see row 3), make 1tr/dc in each of next 7dc/sc below; rep from *, 1tr/dc in each of next 9 dc/sc below, turn.

Row 16: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in each of next 9 tr/dc below, * 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below, skip leaf, 1dc/sc in each of next 2 tr/dc below, skip leaf, 1dc/sc in each of next 6 tr/dc below, rep from *, 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 17: Make 3ch and skip first st, 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, * 1tr/dc in each of next 4 dc/sc below. Make joining of leaf (see row 5), work 1tr/dc in each of next 6 dc/sc below, make joining of next leaf. Work 1tr/dc in each of next 5 dc/sc below; rep form *, 1tr/dc in each of next 9 dc/sc below, turn.

Row 18: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in each of next 9 tr/dc below, * 1dc/sc in each of next 8 tr/dc below, make stem (see row 6), continue row: work 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below rep from *, 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 19: Make 3ch and skip first st, 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, * 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, skip stem, 1tr/dc in each of next 8 dc/sc below; rep from *, 1tr/dc in each of next 9 dc/sc below, turn.

Row 20: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 21: Make 3ch, skip first st, work 1tr/dc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Row 22: Make 1ch and 1dc/sc in each of next 9 tr/dc below, * 1dc/sc in each of next 8 dc/sc below.

Make flower (see row 10). Join first and sixth petals to dc/sc sts of row 18. Continue row, work 1dc/sc in each of next 7 dc/sc below rep from *, 1dc/sc in each of next 7 tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 23: Make 3ch and skip first st, 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, * 1tr/dc in each of next 7 dc/sc below, skip flower, 1tr/dc in each of next 8 dc/sc below; rep from *, 1tr/dc in each of next 9 dc/sc below, turn.

Row 24: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in each of next tr/dc below, 1dc/sc in third ch, turn.

Row 25: Make 3ch, skip first st, work 1tr/dc in each of next dc/sc below, turn.

Repeat rows 2 - 25 until you have reached your desired length.
