Feel free to use any type of yarn (or even thread) for your project. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label.
Techniques used in this stitch
UK / US crochet term:
Chain stitch – ch
Double crochet / Single crochet – dc / sc
Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc
Shell – work 3 tr/dc + 2 ch + 3 tr/dc in the same space.
Make 14 foundation chains.
Row 1: work shell (3 tr/dc + 2 ch + 3 tr/dc) in fourth ch from hook, 2 ch, shell in last foundation ch, turn.
Row 2: 4 ch, shell in shell below, 2 ch, shell in the same shell below, 2 ch, shell in next shell below, turn.

Row 3: 4 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, shell in space of 2 ch (between 2 shells), shell in shell, turn.
Row 4: 4 ch, 3 shells in 3 shells bellow, 2 ch, shell in shell, turn.

Row 5: 4 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, 1 ch, shell in shell, 1ch, shell in shell, turn.
Row 6: 4 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 7 tr/dc in next shell, 3 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, turn.

Row 7: 4 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, 3 tr/dc in the same shell, 3 ch, 7 tr/dc with 1 ch between in each tr/dc below, 3 ch, shell in shell, turn.

Row 8: 4 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 6 dc/sc with 5 ch between in each space of 1 ch, 3 ch, shell in first space of 2 ch, 5 ch, shell in next space of 2 ch, 2 ch, shell in shell, turn.

Row 9: 4 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, shell in space of 5 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 5 dc/sc with 5 ch between in each space of 5 ch, 3 ch, shell in shell, turn.
Row 10: 4 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 4 dc/sc with 5 ch between in each space of 5 ch, 3 ch, 3 shells in 3 shells bellow, 2 ch, shell in shell, turn.

Row 11: 4 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, 1 ch, shell in shell, 1ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 3 dc/sc with 5 ch between in each space of 5 ch, 3 ch, shell in shell, turn.
Row 12: 4 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 2 dc/sc with 5 ch between in each space of 5 ch, 3 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 7 tr/dc in next shell, 3 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, turn.

Row 13: 4 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, 2 ch, 3 tr/dc in the same shell, 3 ch, 7 tr/dc with 1 ch between in each tr/dc below, 3 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, 1 dc/sc in space of 5 ch, 3 ch, shell in shell, turn.
Row 14: 4 ch, 3 tr/dc in shell, shell in next shell, 3 ch, 6 dc/sc with 5 ch between in each space of 1 ch, 3 ch, shell in first space of 2 ch, 5 ch, shell in next space of 2 ch, 2 ch, shell in shell, turn.

Repeat rows 9 - 14 until you have reached your desired length.
