Crochet butterfly pattern

Feel free to use any type of yarn (or even thread) for your project. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label.


Techniques used in this stitch

UK / US crochet term:

Chain stitch – ch

Slip stitch – sl.st

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc / sc

Treble / Double crochet – tr / dc

Double treble / Treble – d.tr / tr

4 half treble puff stitch / 4 half double crochet puff stitch – 4-puf.

3 half treble puff stitch / 3 half double crochet puff stitch – 3-puf.

Picot of 3ch – picot

Shell – work in the same place: 4-puf. + 2 ch + 4-puf.

Puff stitch:

Yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch below and draw yarn up 0,7 - 1 cm, *yarn over hook, insert hook into same stitch and draw yarn up, repeat from*3 times for 4-puf. or 2 times for 3-puf.,

yarn over hook and draw through 8 loops (for 3-puf. draw through 6 loops),

yarn over hook and draw through all loops.

Big wings.

Take yarn of light salmon color and work next:

Row 1: 6 ch, work in last ch: 1 d.tr/tr + 3ch + 2d.tr/tr + 3 ch + 2 d.tr/tr + 3ch + 2 d.tr/tr, 5 ch, turn.

Row 2: shell in first space of 3 ch, 5 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc in next space of 3ch, 5 ch, shell in last space of 3 ch, 5 ch, turn.

Row 3: shell in shell, 5 ch, * 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in first space of 5 ch; rep from * 1 time for next space of 5ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 4: shell in shell, 5 ch, * 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in first space of 5 ch; rep from * 2 times for next spaces of 5ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 5: shell in shell, 3 ch, * 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in first space of 5 ch; rep from * 2 times for next spaces of 5ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 3ch in next space of 5 ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 6: shell in shell, 5 ch, * 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in first space of 5 ch; rep from * 2 times for next spaces of 5ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 7: shell in shell, 3 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in first space of 5 ch, 5ch, 1 dc/sc in next space of 5 ch, 7 ch, 1 dc/sc in next space, 5ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in space of 5 ch, 3ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 8: shell in shell, 5 ch, 1 dc/sc in space of 5ch, 12 tr/dc in space of 7 ch, 1 dc/sc in next space of 5 ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 9: shell in shell, 3 ch, 1 dc/sc in space of 5ch, 12 3-puf. separated by 1 ch, 1 dc/sc in next space of 5 ch, 3ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 10: shell in shell, 5 ch, 1 dc/sc in second space of 1ch, 5 3-puf. in fourth space of 1ch, 1 dc/sc in sixth space of , 5 3-puf. in eighth space of 1ch, 1 dc/sc in tenth space of 1 ch, 5 ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 11: shell in shell, 3 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in space of 5 ch, 5ch, 1 dc/sc in third puf.stitch, 5 3-puf. in dc/sc below, 1 dc/sc in third puf.stitch, 5 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in next space of 5 ch, 3 ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 12: shell in shell, 3 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in first space of 5 ch , 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc in third puff stitch, 5ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 3ch in next space of 5 ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 13: shell in shell, 3 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 5ch in first space of 5 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc + 3ch in next space of 5 ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 14: shell in shell, 3 ch, 1 dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc in space of 5 ch, 3ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 15: one 4-puf. in first shell and one 4-puf. in second, turn.

Row/round 16: take blue yarn and work edging for wing.

1ch and 4 dc/sc in first space of 5 ch, 5 ch, work in next sixth spaces of 5ch: 2dc/sc + picot + 2 dc/sc + 5ch, work 4 dc/sc over 5 ch and 4 dc/sc over d.tr/tr. Work in next sixth spaces of 5ch: 2dc/sc + picot + 2 dc/sc + 5ch, sl.st in first ch, sl.st in dc.sc, 1 dc/sc in next dc/sc.

Make 8 ch, turn and work 1 dc/sc in space of 5 ch. Work in ring 5 dc/sc + picot + 5 dc/sc.

Small wings.

Take yarn of light salmon color and work next:

Row 1: 6 ch, work in last ch: 1 d.tr/tr + 3ch + 2d.tr/tr + 3 ch + 2 d.tr/tr + 3ch + 2 d.tr/tr, 5 ch, turn.

Row 2: work shell + 2 ch in each space of 3ch, 3 ch, turn.

Row 3: * shell in shell, 5 ch; rep from* 1 time, shell in shell, turn.

Row 4: take blue yarn, *5ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, one 4-puf. in third ch; rep from* 1 time, 5ch, shell in shell, 5 ch, turn.

Row 5: * shell in shell, 5 ch, shell in puf. stitch below, 5 ch; rep from* 1 time, shell in shell, turn.

Row 6: take light blue yarn, 5ch, work shell + 5ch in each shell, turn.

Row 7: work 4 shells + 7ch in four shells below and 1 shell in shell at the end of the row.

Row/round 8: take blue yarn and work edging for wing.

1ch and 1 dc/sc over the shell, 5ch, work in next three spaces of 5ch: 2dc/sc + picot + 2 dc/sc + 5ch, work 4 dc/sc over d.tr/tr and 4 dc/sc over 5 ch, 5ch. Work in next two spaces of 5ch: 2dc/sc + picot + 2 dc/sc + 5ch.

Work 2dc/sc in last space of 5 ch. For next four shells work in space of 2 ch: 2dc/sc + picot + 2 dc/sc + 7ch. For last shell work 2dc/sc + picot + 1 dc/sc and sl.st in ch.

Body.

Take brow yarn and make 8 foundation chains.

Row 1: Work 2 tr/dc in the 4th ch from hook, 2 tr/dc decrease in the next 3 chs, 5 tr/dc in the same stitch.

Work on opposite side: 2 tr/dc decrease in the next 3 chs, 2 tr/dc in the same stitch, sl. st. in third ch.

Row 2: 3 chs, 2 tr/dc in the third ch of previous round, 1 tr/dc, 2 tr/dc decrease, 1 tr/dc, 5 tr/dc in the same stitch.

Work on opposite side: 1 tr/dc, 2 tr/dc decrease, 1 tr/dc, 2 tr/dc in third ch of previous round, sl.st. in the third ch.

Row 3: 3 chs, 3 tr/dc in the third ch of previous round, 2 tr/dc, 2 tr/dc decrease, 2 tr/dc, 7 tr/dc in the same stitch.

Work on opposite side: 2 tr/dc, 2 tr/dc decrease, 2 tr/dc, 3 tr/dc in third ch of previous round, sl.st. in the third ch.

Row 4: 3 chs, 3 tr/dc in the third ch of previous round, 4 tr/dc, 2 tr/dc decrease, 4 tr/dc, 7 tr/dc in the same stitch.

Work on opposite side: 4 tr/dc, 2 tr/dc decrease, 4 tr/dc, 3 tr/dc in third ch of previous round, sl.st. in the third ch.

Row 5: 3 chs, 5 tr/dc, 4 tr/dc decrease, 11 tr/dc, 4 tr/dc decrease, 5 tr/dc, sl.st. in the third ch.

Row 6: 3 chs, 3 tr/dc, 4 tr/dc decrease, 7 tr/dc, 4 tr/dc decrease, 3 tr/dc, sl.st. in the third ch.

Finishing:

Stuff body firmly with polyfill.

For next stitches insert the hook through two stitches (from front to opposite side).

Work 2 dc/sc, 3 chs and one 3-puf. through two stitches, picot, 3 chs and dc/sc through the same two stitches.

For fist antenna work 20 ch, 3-puf. in fourth ch from hook, 3 ch, 17 sl.st in next chs. Make dc/sc through two stitches and work second antenna like first.

Make 1 dc/sc through two stitches, 3 ch and 3-puf. in the same two stitches, picot, 3 ch and 2 dc/sc through next stitches.
