Crochet dragonfly pattern

Feel free to use any type of yarn (or even thread) for your project. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label.


Techniques used in this stitch

UK / US crochet term:

Chain stitch – ch

Slip stitch – sl.st

Double crochet / Single crochet – dc/sc

Half treble / half double crochet – h.tr / h.dc

Treble / Double crochet – tr/dc

Double treble / Treble – dtr/tr

Puff stitch of 3 htr / hdc - pff

Cluster of 7 dtr/tr – 7-cls

Stitch – st

Materials: Cotton - 100% (50g/250m), crochet hook size - 2.5mm.

Lower wings

Row 1: Make 5ch, * 1tr/dc in last ch, 2ch; rep from * one time more, 1tr/dc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: Make 5ch, * 1dc/sc in space of 2ch, 3ch; rep from* one more time, 1dc/sc in space of 5ch, 2ch, 1tr/dc in third ch, turn.

Row 3: Make 4ch, * 1dc/sc in space of 3ch, 3ch; rep from * one more time, 1dc/sc in space of 5ch, turn.

Row 4: Make 5ch, * 1dc/sc in space of 3ch, 3ch; rep from * one more time, 1dc/sc in space of 4ch, 2ch, 1tr/dc in first ch, turn.

Repeat rows 3 & 4 – four times, then work row 3 one more time.

Row 14: Make 3ch, work 1 incomplete tr/dc in each space of 3ch and in first ch of row below, yarn over and draw yarn through all loops on hook.

Row 15: Make 1ch and work 3dc/sc over each tr/dc (7 times), 3dc/sc in space of 5 ch (of first row), 1dc/sc in first ch (of first row), 3dc/sc over tr/dc, 3dc/sc in each space of 3ch (7 times), 1dc/sc in top, slt in first ch, fasten off.

Small ring & Crochet Bullion Knot

For ring make 3ch, work 16 htr/hdc in last ch, slt in third ch and fasten off.

For Bullion Knot make 1ch,

draw loop about 5 – 7 cm,

rotate your hook 10 times in anticlockwise direction.

Pull thread and form a knot.

Make 1ch

Fasten off.

Sew all parts together.

Left Upper wing

Ring #1

Make 3ch, work 16 htr/hdc in last ch, slt in third ch, fasten off.

Ring #2

Row 1: Make 4ch, work 12pff in last ch, slt in third ch.

Row 2: Make 1ch, work 2dc/sc in top of each of 10pff, 1dc/sc in next pff, make joining to ring #1 1dc/sc in same pff, 2dc/sc in next pff, slt in ch, fasten off.

Ring #3

Row 1: Make 3ch, work 16 htr/hdc in last ch, slt in third ch.

Row 2: Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 2sts below, make joining to ring #2,

1dc/sc in each of next 14sts below, slt in ch, fasten off.

Ring #4

Make 3ch, work 2 htr/hdc in last ch, make joining, work 14 htr/hdc in last ch, slt in third ch, fasten off.

Row 1: Fasten to ring #4. Work stitches in back loops only. Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 4sts below, 3dc/sc in next st, 1dc/sc in each of next 4sts below, 3 ch

Work over next ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 3sts below, 3ch.

Work over puff stitch ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 6sts below, 3ch.

Work over next ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 10sts below, 3ch.

Work over puff stitch ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 8sts below, 3ch.

Work over next ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 3sts below, 3ch, slt in first ch..

Row 2: Work stitches in back loops only. Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 5dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in next dc/sc, 1dc/sc in each of next 5dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 3dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 6dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 10dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 8dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 3dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, slt in ch, fasten off.

Right Upper wing

Work Ring #1 of left wing.

Ring #2

Row 1: Make 4ch, work 12pff in last ch, slt in third ch.

Row 2: Make 1ch, work 1dc/sc in first pff, make joining to ring #1, 1dc/sc in same pff, 2dc/sc in top of each next 11pff, slt in ch, fasten off.

Work Ring #3 and #4 of left wing.

Row 1: Fasten to ring #4. Work stitches in back loops only. Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 4sts below, 3dc/sc in next st, 1dc/sc in each of next 4sts below, 3 ch.

Work over next ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 3sts below, 3ch.

Work over puff stitch ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 8sts below, 3ch.

Work over next ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 10sts below, 3ch.

Work over puff stitch ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 6sts below, 3ch.

Work over next ring: 1dc/sc in each of next 3sts below, 3ch, slt in first ch.

Row 2: Work stitches in back loops only. Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 5dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in next dc/sc, 1dc/sc in each of next 5dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 3dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 8dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 10dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 6dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 3dc/sc below, 3dc/sc in space of 3ch, slt in ch, fasten off.

Make 2 bullion knots.

Body

Ring #1

Make 2ch, 4dc/sc in last ch, 6ch, skip 1ch, make slt in each of next 5ch, 4dc/sc in same last ch, slt in first ch, fasten off.

Ring #2

Make 2ch, 5dc/sc in last ch, make joining to ch of fist ring, 4dc/sc in same last ch, slt in first ch, fasten off.

Ring #3, #4 & #5

Follow instructions of ring #2. Join ring #3 to ring #2, ring #4 to ring #3, ring #5 to ring #4.

Upper part

Make 12ch, skip 2ch, work 2htr/hdc in next ch, work 1htr/hdc in each of next 8ch, 2htr/hdc in last ch, make joining to ring #5, 2htr/hdc in last ch, work on opposite side, 1htr/hdc in each of next 8ch, 2htr/hdc in next ch, sl.st in second ch. Turn.

Row 1: Work stitches in back loops only. Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in each of next 11htr/hdc below, work 1dc/sc in each of 4dc/sc of ring #5, #4, #3, #2 & #1. Continue work on opposite side: work 1dc/sc in each of 4dc/sc of ring #1, #2, #3, #4 & #5, 1dc/sc in each of next 11htr/hdc below, slt in first ch, turn.

Row 2: Make 1ch, 1dc/sc in next st, 3ch, 7-cls in same st,

3ch, 1dc/sc in same st, 1dc/sc in back loop of each of next 10dc/sc below, * 3ch, 1dc/sc in back loop of each of next 4dc/sc; rep form * 4 more times, work on opposite side, * 1dc/sc in back loop of each of next 4dc/sc, 1dc/sc in space of 3ch;

rep from * 4 more times, 1dc/sc in back loop of each of next 10dc/sc below, 1dc/sc in next st, 3ch, 7-cls in same st, 3ch, 1dc/sc in same st, slt in first ch, fasten off.

Make 5 bullion knots.

Sew all parts together.
