Crochet shell square

Guide

This afghan square crochet stitch pattern is a versatile design that can be worked using any thread or yarn. Most yarns have the recommended crochet hook size on the label. But you can play around with different options to get tighter or looser crochet fabric.

How to grow your square pattern:

You could make a lovely-to-look-at baby blanket or pillow cover of any size. Grow the square pattern for as long as you want. Simply repeat rows (given in diagram and step-by-step instructions) until you get the desired size of your project.

Round 2: 3ch, * shell in 1st space of 1ch, 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in next space of 1ch; rep from * 2 more times, shell in next space of 1ch, 1tr/dc in space of dc/sc and 3ch below, 1dc/sc in 3rd ch, turn.

Round 3: work sl.st in space of dc/sc and 3ch, 4ch, 1tr/dc in the same space, *skip first tr/dc of the shell, 1 BPtr/dc over each of the next 4tr/dc of the shell, work [1tr/dc + 1ch in the same space of 1ch] - 3 times, 1tr/dc in the same space; rep from * 2 more times, skip first tr/dc of the shell, 1 BPtr/dc over each of the next 4tr/dc of the shell, work 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in space of dc/sc and 3ch, 1dc/sc in 3rd ch, turn.

Round 4: 3 ch, shell in space of 1ch, * 1tr/dc + ch + 1tr/dc in space between 2nd and 3rd BPtr/dc below, shell in 1st space of 1ch, 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in 2nd space of 1ch, shell in last space of 1ch; rep from* 2 more times, 1tr/dc + ch + 1tr/dc in space between 2nd and 3rd BPtr/dc below, shell in space of 4ch, 1tr/dc in space of dc/sc and 3ch, 1dc/sc in 3rd ch, turn.

Round 5:

Work next steps:

1 - "Beginning of the round #1": work sl.st in space of dc/sc and 3ch, 4ch, 1tr/dc in the same space.

2 - "Middle stitches #1": * skip first tr/dc of the shell, 1 BPtr/dc over each of the next 4tr/dc of the shell, work 1tr/dc + 1ch in space of 1ch; rep from * (don't rep for "round 5"), skip first tr/dc of the shell, 1 BPtr/dc over each of the next 4tr/dc of the shell.

3 - "Point 1": work [1tr/dc + 1ch in the same space of 1ch] - 3 times, 1tr/dc in the same space.

Repeat steps: 2 – 3 – 2 – 3 – 2.

4 - "Finishing of the round #1": work 1tr/dc + 1ch + 1tr/dc in space of dc/sc and 3ch, 1dc/sc in 3rd ch, turn. Turn.

1 - "Beginning of the round #2": 3 ch, shell in space of 1ch.

Repeat steps: 2 – 3 – 2 – 3 – 2.

4 - "Finishing of the round #2": shell in space of 4ch, 1tr/dc in space of dc/sc and 3ch, 1dc/sc in 3rd ch, turn.

Round 7

Repeat rows 5 - 6 until you have reached your desired size of square.

Colors & rounds: 1&2 – blue, 3&4 – white, 5&6 – pink, 7&8 – white, 9&10 – violet, 11&12 – white, 13 – blue.
