How to read crochet diagrams

The steps below will help you learn to read crochet diagrams. For this tutorial we will use a crochet diagram and instructions to Crochet Narrow Prospect Lace #22.

Row 1: skip 3 ch, work shell: 3 tr/dc + 2 ch + 3tr/dc in next ch.

Make shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell.

Row 3: Turn and make 3 ch.

Make shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell.

Work 4 ch and 1 dc/sc in third ch of Row 2.

Row 4: Turn and make 3 ch, work 6 tr/dc + 1ch in space of 4 ch.

Make shell in shell, 2 ch, shell in shell, 3 ch, work 1 tr/dc + 2ch in each of next 5tr/dc below, make 1 tr/dc in third ch at the end.

Then work 2 dc/sc in space of 3 ch + 3 ch.

Repeat rows 4 - 7 until you have reached your desired length of lace.
